# Download ESX Legacy (/docs/getting-started/download)

Download ESX Legacy from the **official GitHub releases**, not a reuploaded ZIP or an old standalone `es_extended` package. This page links to the maintained source and explains which files you need.

## What comes with ESX? [#what-comes-with-esx]

The maintained `esx_core` repository includes the `[core]` directory containing `es_extended`, `esx_lib`, `esx_identity`, `esx_multicharacter` and other essential resources. The SQL schema is under `[SQL]/legacy.sql`.

Official addons live in a separate repository. A source checkout alone is **not** a complete FiveM server: you also need FXServer, a database, `oxmysql` and a valid server configuration.

## Choose your installation path [#choose-your-installation-path]

1. **New server:** Follow [Install ESX with txAdmin](/docs/getting-started/installation). This is the recommended route for most server owners.
2. **Custom resource tree:** Follow [Manual installation](/docs/getting-started/manual-installation). Install `esx_lib` and `oxmysql` before dependent resources.
3. **Existing live server:** Follow [Update ESX Legacy](/docs/getting-started/updating) and back up your database, configs and resource folders first.

## Avoid common download mistakes [#avoid-common-download-mistakes]

| Error | Correction |
| --- | --- |
| Downloaded only `es_extended` | Install the required core resources too |
| `es_extended/es_extended/fxmanifest.lua` | Remove the accidental extra folder level |
| Guide links to ESX 1.1, 1.2 or v1-final | Use the maintained ESX Legacy release |
| Missing `oxmysql` at startup | Install its release build and check `server.cfg` |
| Missing `users` table | Follow the manual SQL import instructions |

Never install unknown “ESX packs” that bundle unrelated paid scripts, modified database files or credentials. Verify repository ownership and source release dates before deploying.
